Update on my Lego project: I’m almost done with the database!

For those who don’t know what this project is about.

I did a few hours of coding today and added a bunch of new bricks into my Lego MySQL database. There are currently 1,929 bricks in the database and I’m almost done. After that, I’ll build a web page with colorful data graphs and charts displaying my Lego collection by size, brick type, and color.

In order to make the progress I’ve made thus far, I had to adopt a very important philosophy: breaking down big tasks into smaller tasks. The amount of Legos I’ve cataloged so far seemed like too much of a daunting task when I began this project months ago. But when I began breaking it down into smaller tasks, it didn’t seem so difficult. I divided the entire collection by brick type (ie: regular bricks, plates, roof tiles, etc.), then by colors, then by brick type within each color. Then I started entering each of these small groups into the database.

I’m excited to finish up the rest of this collection and build the website. I’ll be sure to keep you guys updated on my progress and share the link to the website when it’s finished!
