“Bike locks are for the weak.”

Happy New Year, readers! The first spotlight of 2021 comes from a very talented and funny filmmaker who has been previously featured in this space.

“Two-Wheel Terror” is a 2 and a half minute comedy skit by Eric Simons, who previously directed a short profiled here entitled “Space Force.” The short is an expose on its eponymous character, the baddest bicyclist on the road. Since this short is so brief, I’ll try not to spoil too much of it.

What I will say is that this humorous character study proves once again why Simons, who plays the Terror himself, is such a great comedic performer. The assuredness exuded by the protagonist is hilariously juxtaposed with the intensity he displays in his elementary (and somewhat clumsy) cycling skills. He rides like an angry, petulant 10-year-old, but acts as though he’s in first place in the Tour De France.

And with every utterance, he proclaims himself to be God’s gift to the cycling world… …and the real world, probably. His misplaced cocksureness not only propelled this brief skit to excellence; it also harbored a warning to any would-be cyclists who cross his path. Beware the Two-Wheel Terror. For the world is his bike path. Or, to put it another way… …it’s his terror-tory. Anyway, I’ll be back next month with another spotlight, but for now…
