Filmmaker Spotlight: “Greetings From Chelsea Garren” by Get the Pix Productions
Hey readers! For my final Filmmaker Spotlight, I’ve selected an award-winning short that was made for Cleveland’s 2021 edition of the 48 Hour Film Project.
“Greetings from Chelsea Garren” is a romantic musical short film from Get the Pix Productions. The film stars Sarah Klein as a greeting card maker named Chelsea who’s writing a series of intimate cards while seeking love. The amorous expressions that pour from her pen are poetic works of art of and convey the ruminations of a hopeless romantic who yearns for the type of relationships that she writes about. The short then concludes with a heartwarming musical number in the rain — I trust nobody in the cast and crew caught a cold here — that literally propels Chelsea towards her fate.
For me, this short works because of its simplicity and complete lack of cynicism. It exudes optimism (which we sorely need right now) and possesses a level of production quality that stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the very best of independent cinema. (Especially its sublime cinematography!) I marvel at how the team at Get the Pix were able to create a magical piece of escapist entertainment in under 48 hours.
With its charming story, memorable musical number, and relatable tale of the quest for human connection, “Greetings from Chelsea Garren” will win over your hearts and leave you singing, both figuratively and literally, long after the short’s conclusion. And if you enjoy this short, you’ll be pleased to learn that Get the Pix will be premiering their fourth feature film, an intense crime drama entitled “Jar Lid,” on January 15th at 7 pm at the Regina Auditorium at Notre Dame College. You can learn more about it here and subscribe to the production company’s YouTube channel here.
Anyway, this concludes the Filmmaker Spotlight series. I hope you all enjoyed it and discovered some great new content being made by the Midwestern auteurs that were featured. The genres and topics covered in each one showcased the eclectic array of art that our part of the country has to offer. For those of you that have seen multiple entries in this series, let me know in the comments which ones you liked the best! And lastly…
